Nothing can stop me. I’ll work harder than anyone. Watch.
Something changed the summer before my Sophomore year at UC Berkeley. I was an NCAA Division 1 athlete on the Men’s Gymnastics Team, and I actually quit training for about a month. It saddened me, but I was also excited about the prospect of being a “normal” college student. As you might imagine, I leaned on family and friends for support, and through several conversations, I determined I couldn’t throw in the towel after the amount I had sacrificed for the sport over the past 14 years. If I was dissatisfied before, this decision certainly wouldn’t get me to where I wanted to be - talk about regret!
I started training again, but this time it was different. I made the choice to not compare myself to anyone anymore - time to live in my own lane. When I made the decision to get back in the gym, I specifically remember telling myself, “I want to see how good I can get at this sport” - that’s it, no other expectations. At that moment, I made a conscious decision to focus only on what I could control, and block out the noise. Little did I know, that single sentence I quietly whispered to myself would be the foremost driver of any form of success in my life. The transformation from this point forward was sharp and I never looked back. And guess what? I was happier every single day because of it. This state of mind has stayed with me to this day, and now, as my clients consider important real estate decisions, they are the beneficiaries of the discipline and mental toughness forged through my athletic journey.
